About the Day
The focus of this year’s conference is twofold: First, to gain a clear understanding of the Ontario Dementia Strategy and how it will be implemented by the Alzheimer’s Society, and secondly, to update helping professionals on the newest best practices and innovations in dementia care, with a particular focus on caregivers.
Keynote Presentation
The Ontario Dementia Strategy and what it means for us?
Ms. Andrea Ubell, MSW, RSW, is the Director, Programs and Client Services at the Alzheimer Society of York Region, where she is responsible for supervision and delivery of AS York's Caregiver Support & Education, and D.A.Y. Centre programs. A clinical social worker by training, Andrea has been supporting families and individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias in York Region for the past 25 years.
Objectives
At the end of the conference, participants will be able to:
- Understand the Ontario Dementia Strategy and where funding will be disseminated.
- Learn innovative, practical, and research based techniques for helping caregivers of people living with dementia in institutions (e.g., LTC facilities) and in the community.
- Learn specific strategies in coordinated care and access for caregivers of people living with dementia in the community.
- Incorporate the principles of a cultural framework into practical clinical skills.
